A Framework for Loving Services-Discovering
To strengthen the service-learning and development to improve outcomes for young people, intentionally integrating positive youth development (PYD) principles and practices of service-learning. This brief includes a framework for PYD-known development, plant and equipment, a tool that enriches the service-learning.
What developmental disorders of the property?
Framework for PYD is widely used resources of developmental psychology. Created by Search Institute, the development activities are relationships, opportunities, skills, values and commitments to children and young people need to grow up healthy, caring and responsible (Benson, 2006, Scales & Leffert, 2004; Scales, Sesma and Bolstrom, 2004).
The research framework (Display 1) is organized into two types of assets. Foreign assets refer to the support and opportunities offered by family, friends, organizations and communities. The internal assets focus on the abilities, skills and values that young people need to internalize in the development of their character, identity and life skills.
The active younger people’s experience, they are less likely to engage in a series of high-risk behaviors and more likely they are to engage in thriving behaviors (Display 2). They are also more likely to succeed in school (Scales et al., 2006). These types of relationships apply to all groups of adolescents studied, including many racial-ethnic backgrounds, communities of all sizes and from different socioeconomic backgrounds (Sesma & Roehlkepartain, 2003).
The power of the assets in the configuration options of young people has led to hundreds of thousands of communities and individuals and organizations to join efforts to create development assets in and around children and young people. Many are quick to recognize the potential of service learning as a strategy for this purpose.
